Hello there. My name is Molatelo Tlowana. Ke ngwana mmopyao ka diatla. Mkomotana tele. Seimela ke matswele. Tlou ya Mamphela (inserts ululations).
I am a young black woman living in South Africa and my pronouns are she/her. Welcome to thoughts by me. On the door to my room is a note that reads: “This is a [feminist friendly, nudist friendly, non-heteronormative, non-racist, body positive] safe space. Enter strictly on these terms.” Well, the same goes for my blog and the content I plan to put up. Essentially, this blog is going to serve as my creative outlet and a medium for me to put out my think pieces into the digital space. The thought of my ideas contributing towards an archive of information on the internet and living beyond my death excites me. While death is a certain event in life, my thoughts in the form of words on the internet will allow me to be immortal. Pretty cool, don’t you think?
From the top of my head, here’s a few fun facts about me: On my 20th birthday, my bestfriend bought me clippers so now I cut my own hair. I’m not the biggest fitness fanatic but I enjoy steep hikes with lots of greenery and a gorgeous view to catch the sunrise. I’m a leisure reader – fiction by African Authors and murder mysteries by Mary Higgins Clark are my current favourtites. I’ve recently developed a love for painting as a form of therapy. I am not sure what it is, but there is something about holding a set of paint brushes and stroking paint onto a canvas, that helps me clear my head. I enjoy thrifting and earings are my favourite accessories – the bigger the better. Lastly, I am a Thandiswa Mazwai fan and I’m happy to say that she took my concert virginity.
Thoughts by Molatelo Tlowana was birthed on the 29th of February 2020. Yes, in the spirit of it being the leap year day, I took my leap of faith and created the domain. It is now 2 months later and I am finally ready to release her into the world. My wish for her is to grow into a space that allows me a medium for self expression and a source of happiness. I hope that as a reader of the blog, you’ll find something of value to keep you coming back. Happy reading mate. Le amogetswe.
